This covers the regularly scheduled workday for July 11. We met at the field at the end of the Pigeon Hill parking lot for check in. I did introductions, reviewed the workplan, and did a safety brief.
We had 6 crew leaders for the workday. The Crew Leaders were Bill, Eric, Kirsten, Pam, Tom, and me. We had 4 Ambassadors; they were Laurie, Karen, Steve, and Yvonne. They did registration and parking. We had 10 volunteers. They consisted of 1 student from Allatoona JRORC, 3 from the Atlanta Outdoor Club (added to this Kirsten and me how are also members), and 6 volunteers that heard about the event either online or though other sources.
Each team restacked and repaired fencing at the locations they were assigned. They used deck screws on those sections that did not have them.
Group 1: Eric and Tom; they started at the switchback and rebuilt that step.
Group 2: Bill with Kirsten, and Pam; they started at the step about 70 feet further up the mountain and rebuilt two steps.
I bounced between the two groups, ensuring they were following the workplan, park procedures, and working safely.

On Friday, July 10, Bill, Eric, and I walked to the worksite and reviewed the workplan.
Our next workday will be on August 8 performing cyclic maintenance on the service road going to the new bridge and on the Kolb’s Farm East Trail past the bridge. We will be parking at the Illinois Monument parking lot.
